OPERATING THE TRAOTOB
Two-speed Power Take-olf and Pulley
Engaging lever identical with the one referred to above, and shown
in Fig. 6. The control lever has three positions, indicated on the instruction
plate attached to the cover of the unit. With the control lever forward,
the pulley and P.T.O. shaft run at low speed; centre is neutral, and rear
position is for high speed.
Power Lift Control
(Fig. 7)
Movement of the lever in the direction indicated raises the lift. Two
sliding bolts are provided (Fig. 6); the N/S bolt locks the lift in the
raised position, whilst the 0/S bolt limits its fall and should only he used
with implements taking their depth control from the tractor.
Caution : This bolt must not be engaged with the hole in the lift arm.
Never run the tractor for long periods with the lift tever in the raised
position, unless an attachment is being used which requires hydraulic
pressure from the tractor system.
STARTING A.ND STOPPING
THE ENGINE
When cold the engine must be started on petrol : failure to observe
this instruction will result in undue engine wear, avoidable oil dilution
and difficulty in starting. Do not start the engine from cold with the
starter, as this causes a heavy drain on the battery.
Starting from cold
I. Put the gear lever in neutral.
2. Close the radiator blind.
3. Close the choke by pulling the control outwards and close the pre-
heater regulator.
4. Move the engine hand contrgl lever upward about a quarter-inch.
5. Turn fuel tap to petrol position.
6. Drain carburettor float chamber (if not alreadyfull of petrol) from the tap
(Fig. 2) and allow fuel to run until pipes have been :flushed with petrol.

.
7. Close carburettor drain tap and allow float chamber to refill with petrol.
·
8. Engage starting handle with crankshaft dog and pull upward three or
four times.
9. Switch on.
10. Grip starting handle (with thumb and fingers below the grip) and pull
smartly upwards until the engine fires.
11. Open choke by pushing control inwards.
12. Verify that oil pressure indicator button is out. Press button inward
to check that it is working properly. It should immediately return
to the out position.
13 .. Regulate the throttle control until the engine is running fairly fast.
14. Change over to vaporizing oil a few minutes after the engine fires
and keep it running steadily and fairly fast for ten minutes and
then put the tractor to work.
15. Adjust.the pre-heater sleeve according.to the atmospheric temperatm·e.
The correct position will be found by experience, although normally
when the tractor engine has reached its working temperature the sleeve
may be opened.
