System Troubleshooting
1.
Exit from Chirpscan

.
2.
Click HyperTerminal in the Windows Accessories program group and
establish a connection using COM3 at 9,600 baud with eight data bits, no
parity and no stop bit.
3.
Stop the heading sensor by typing
C1.
The heading sensor data in the
Status display no longer updates.
4.
Clear the heading sensor by typing
C2.
5.
Enable the heading sensor calibration mode by typing

.
9.

C5
.
The magnitude of the local field present will be displayed. For this parameter
a low number is preferable; the number 30 is considered large. The pitch and
roll fields will now hold the horizontal and vertical component of the local
magnetic field, respectively. For this parameter, which can range from 0 to 9,
a high number is preferable; the number 9 indicates the best quality.
11.
Start the heading sensor by typing
C0
and Exit HyperTerminal.
Downlink Commands
All the tow vehicle functions are controlled with the downlink commands.
Refer to Section 2, "Specifications," for a list of the downlink commands. The
downlink commands are transmitted to the tow vehicle when configuring the
sonar parameters as described in Configuring the Sonar Parameter Settings
begining on page 3-20. In addition, commands can be sent using the Sonar
Controls box in the Main window when clicking Accept. The command
character string is displayed in the Status display in the Main window, where
the display is actually a confirmation that the commands were received by the
tow vehicle, as the tow vehicle transmits back, or “echoes,” the characters
after it receives them. An alternative way to send a command to the tow
vehicle is to use Windows HyperTerminal in the Windows Accessories
program group. Using HyperTerminal will confirm the operation of the
downlink commands communications link. When using HyperTerminal, the
actual ASCII character strings, as described below, must be sent.
