Depending on the reference of the chosen BEC LD, there are two working modes:
•
Constant power
(those marked with “Uout: 10 ... 50 V DC"): Will adjust the current and voltage
(between 10 and 50 V DC) to give the power defined on the marking.
•
Constant voltage
(those marked with "Uout: 12 V DC ± 10%"): The current delivered will be adjusted to the lamp power or up to the
power limit defined on the marking.
It allows two modes of operation depending on the wiring diagram chosen:
Non-maintained: A lamp that switches on only in an emergency.
Maintained: A lamp that switches on in an emergency and can be switched on/off when connected to mains power.
•
WITH THE MAINS CONNECTED:
The BEC is in normal mode and manages battery charging. The lamp can be switched on by means of
an external LED driver (not included).
•
IN THE CASE OF MAINS FAILURE:
The BEC changes to emergency mode and works by turning on the lamp to which it is connected.
It performs two types of tests automatically:
- Functional test (every 30 days): consists of simulating a mains failure and checking the operation of the lamp in an emergency.
- Duration test (every 3 months): consists of simulating a mains failure, checking the operation of the lamp in emergency mode and
recording the duration achieved.
The luminaire indicates its status by means of a two-colour LED
Note: if the admissible battery temperature range is exceeded, the inverter stops charging the battery
Optional: The finish (DM) has a 0...10V output that allows dimming of the external non-DALI dimmable driver when mains power is present.
Precautions
-All installation, maintenance or repair tasks must be performed by qualified personnel.
-The use of EN 60900/IEC 60900 insulated tools is recommended.
-The nominal voltage, duration, battery characteristics and suitable lamps are marked on the BEC.
-Before connecting, check that the mains voltage distribution corresponds to that specified on the BEC.
-Before performing any installation or maintenance, make sure that the luminaire is disconnected from the power supply and is in rest
mode.
-Covering the BEC with insulation or similar material is not recommended.
-Storage time <3 months before mains connection and power-up. Storage temperature >5ºC and <45ºC.
-Keep these instructions in a safe place.
Assembly and installation instructions
1.- Check that the lamp to be connected does not have a built-in driver and is suitable for the chosen BEC (see example figure 1).
2.- Disconnect the power supply to the installation (see figure 2).
3. - Find a suitable location for the converter, inside the luminaire, so that the battery is not close to heat sources to avoid shortening its life.
Cables to the lamp should have the minimum length possible.
4.- Place the two-colour LED in a visible position. It may be necessary to make a ø5mm hole to attach it.
5.- Attach the converter module to its definitive location.
6.- Choose the desired wiring diagram for operation
(Maintained 3A, 3B, 3C / Non-Maintained 3D)
and make the connection.
7.- Connect the battery paying special attention to the polarity of the connectors (see figure 4).
8.- Connect the two-colour LED to its connector (see figure 5).
9.- Optional: On the finish (DM) connect the 0-10 V output to the Dimming input of the external driver (see diagram).
10.- Connect the power supply to the installation and check that the two-colour LED lights up showing the OK status (see figure 6).
Maintenance
-Maintenance must be carried out in accordance with EN 50172.
-The BEC has a battery that must be replaced with another of the same characteristics when the luminaire does not meet its nominal
duration. In the event of a duration failure, after the battery has been replaced the BEC will perform a duration test (maximum 72h) so that
the BEC failure signalling is updated.
-In the event of a lamp failure, after its replacement the luminaire will perform a functional test (maximum 48h) so that the BEC failure
signalling is updated.

BEC LD …. DALI
The DAISALUX BEC LD emergency lighting converter, designed according to the EN 61347 standard, is a
device that allows the integrated transformation of an LED luminaire with a very low voltage safety lamp
into a self-contained emergency luminaire. It complies with EN 60598-2-22.
