Air-cooled condensing units
4PW00410-1C
S
ELECTION
OF
LOCATION
The condensing unit should be installed in a location that meets the
following requirements:
1.
The foundation is strong enough to support the weight of the unit
and the floor is flat to prevent vibration and noise generation.
2.
The space around the unit is adequate for servicing and the
minimum space for air inlet and air outlet (see
figure 2
and
figure 3
) is available.
3.
There is no danger of fire due to leakage of inflammable gas.
4.
The maximum level difference (20 m) between the condensing
unit and the air conditioning unit will not be exceeded.
5.
The piping length between the condensing unit and the air
conditioning unit may not exceed 35 m equivalent length.
6.
Select the location of the unit in such a way that neither the
discharged air nor the sound generated by the unit disturb
anyone.
7.
Make sure that the air inlet and outlet of the unit are not
positioned towards the main wind direction. Frontal wind will
disturb the operation of the unit. If necessary, use a windscreen
to block the wind.
8.
Make sure that the unit can be fixed directly in concrete or that
the optional floor standing kit is purchased in order to protect the
unit from being overturned by wind.
9.
The standard operation range of the ER-DA units ranges from
0°CDB to +43°CDB outdoor ambient temperature. However, the
allowable minimum temperature can be lowered to -15°CDB by
installing the head pressure control kit.
I
NSPECTING
AND
HANDLING
THE
UNIT
The ER-DA units are packed in a cardboard box and attached on a
wooden pallet.
At delivery, the package should be checked and any damage should
be reported immediately to the carrier claims agent.
When handling the unit, take into account the following:
1.
Follow the instructions marked by the symbols on the package:
Fragile, handle the unit with care.
Keep the unit upright in order to avoid compressor damage.
2.
Lift the unit preferably with a fork-lift, a manual pallet mover or a
crane and belts.
3.
When lifting the unit with a crane, always use protectors to
prevent belt damage and pay attention to the position of the
unit’s centre of gravity.
4.
Bring the unit as close to its final installation position in its
original package to prevent damage during transport.
U
NPACKING
AND
PLACING
THE
UNIT
1.
Cut the straps and remove the cardboard box from the
condensing unit.
2.
Remove the four screws fixing the unit to the pallet.
3.
If the optional floor standing kit is provided, lift the unit from the
pallet and place it on the floor standing supports. Attach the unit
to the supports using the bolts, spring lock washers and nuts
provided with the kit.
4.
Level the unit in both directions.
5.
Use four anchor bolts with M8 thread to fix the unit in concrete
(directly or using the floor standing supports).
6.
Remove the service plate.
7.
Remove the shipping stay from the
compressor support as shown in the
figure (only for ER3DA units).
I
NSTALLATION
OF
THE
HEAD
PRESSURE
CONTROL
KIT
In case temperatures lower than 0°CDB are expected, the optional
head pressure control kit must be installed in order not to disturb the
operation of the condensing unit. By installing the head pressure
control kit, temperatures down to -15°CDB are allowed.
R
EFRIGERANT
PIPING
Always ensure to connect the pipe end to the appropriate measures
(mm or inch).
Refer to the technical specifications for the required diameter for both
liquid and gas lines.
Precautions when handling refrigerant piping
If air, moisture or dust gets in the refrigeration circuit, problems may
occur. Therefore, always take into account the following when
connecting the refrigerant piping:
1.
Use clean and dry pipes only.
2.
Hold the pipe end downwards when removing burrs.
3.
Cover the pipe end when inserting it through a wall so that no
dust and dirt enter.
4.
In case of flare connections, flare the pipe end neatly to avoid
refrigerant leaks.
Connecting the refrigerant piping
Piping connections must be made from the front of the condensing
unit (refer to
figure 1
).
The liquid line must be connected to the condensing unit via a flare
connection. In case of an ER5-8-10, the gasline must be connected
to the unit using a flange connection. Do not forget to install the
gasket delivered with the manuals. In case of an ER3DA unit, both
the liquid line and the gas line must be connected to the condensing
unit via a flare connection.
Follow the instructions supplied with the air conditioner to connect
the piping to the air conditioner side.
For the ER3DA unit, the refrigerant gas inlet must be changed from 5/
8" pipe to 3/4" pipe if the equivalent length exceeds 20 meters. This
to improve the cooling capacity of the unit.
The head pressure control kit must be installed by a
licensed refrigeration technician and must be in accord-
ance with the installation instructions and wiring diagram
supplied with the kit.
A liquid line and gas line must be provided between the
condensing unit and the air conditioning unit and must be
installed by a licensed refrigeration technician. All field
piping must comply with relevant European and national
regulations.
NOTE
If the piping length between the condensing unit and
the air conditioner exceeds 8 m, additional refrigerant
R22 must be charged after vacuum drying of the
installation as described further.
