The 

switchport mode 

Interface Configuration mode command configures the VLAN membership mode of a port. 

To return to the default configuration, use the 

no 

form of this command.

Syntax

switchport mode 

{

access

 | 

trunk | general

}

no switchport mode

Parameters
•

access

 — Indicates an untagged layer 2 VLAN port.

•

trunk

 — Indicates a trunking layer 2 VLAN port.

•

general

 — Indicates a full 802-1q supported VLAN port.

Default Configuration

All ports are in access mode, and belong to the default VLAN (whose VID=1).
