stereo inputs
features
The HP-Eight has 5 stereo inputs, all located within the Master module. All five
have identical features, they vary only in their rear-panel input connectors. The
first 3 inputs are defined as Stereo LINE Inputs. These 4dBu balanced or
unbalanced signals on their 1/4”,TRS jacks (on Master Rear panel). The next 2
inputs are called Stereo TAPE Inputs. They can accept the same type of signals on
their 1/4” TRS jacks. In addition to these jacks, Stereo Tape Inputs A & B also fea-
ture additional RCA jacks for inputs. These RCA jacks are designed to accept -
10dBV, unbalanced signals (from a CD player, tape deck, etc). Internal amplifiers
boost that -10dBV signal up to the +4dBu pro-level that the HP-Eight uses. Both
the TRS and RCA jacks can be used simultaneously. Both sets of signals will be
mixed together.
Gain
This control adjusts the gain of the input amplifiers, both Left & Right cir-
cuits are simultaneously adjusted. Unity gain is at the mid-point (with a detent),
min and max gain adjust is 20dB.The stereo inputs were designed for line-level
sources, and can accommodate a wide range of input levels. Use the appropriate
line or tape input (and the matching input connectors) when patching-in your
external gear. For most semi-Pro or Pro outboard gear with TRS or XLR output
jacks, use the Stereo Line inputs 1 thru 3.Their TRS input jacks can accept bal-
anced or unbalanced sources. Use an adapter plug or cable to patch-in XLR gear.
For semi-Pro or consumer equipment with RCA output jacks, use Stereo Tape
inputs A and B.Their RCA inputs have an internal amplifier to bring those low-
level -10dBV signals up to a +4dBu Pro level.With Stereo Inputs A & B, both the
TRS and RCA inputs can be used simultaneously. Both sets of signals will be mixed
together.
Stereo Lo-Cut filter
This filter reduces or eliminates unwanted low frequencies without substantially
affecting the program material. Quite often, such unwanted low frequencies are
included with mic- or line-input signals. For example, stage rumble or wind can
be picked up through vocal mics. The cut-off frequency of the filter is 72 Hz and
the slope is -18dB per octave. This type of filter is also referred to as a Hi-pass
filter (HPF). It allows the hi-frequencies to pass, but stops the lo-frequencies.
Lo Cut Switch
Stereo Lo-Cut filter is bypassed.
Stereo Lo-Cut filter is on.
2
Stereo Inputs 1, 2 and
3 are called Stereo
Line
Inputs. They have 1/4”
TRS inputs only.
Stereo Inputs A & B are
called Stereo
Tape
Inputs.
They have 1/4” TRS jacks
PLUS
additional RCA jacks.

When performing
outdoors, wind-
induced, low-frequency
rumble can get into the
input channels thru the
microphones.
Engaging the Lo-Cut fil-
ter can eliminate these
power-stealing low fre-
quencies.
