The
TrueDPD
is an optional accessory that adds a free chlorine measurement. The measurement uses
the DPD method and is not affected by pH, cyanuric acid, saltwater chlorine generators or any other
variables that affect an ORP or amperiometric measurement. It interfaces with the controller using the
TrueDPD connector on the display board (if that connector doesn’t exist use flow switch 2).
Mounting
: Locate a vertical section of wall space close enough to the controller so that the interface
cable can reach the controller. Attach to the wall with 4 screws. The TrueDPD must be located close to
the flow cell for the 2 foot tube to reach. When ordering the MiniWarden mounted with the TrueDPD it will
be pre-installed as shown in the picture.
When making a measurement, water will flow through the supply tube for about 20 seconds and for fresh
water to reach the sample chamber the supply tube must be as short as possible. Water from the
TrueDPD goes to the drain and does not continuously flow to keep the water fresh. With higher sample
times, the water in the tube will be less representative of the pool water as time goes on until the next
measurement.
Drain
: Attach 1/2” tubing to the drain connection on the front of the TrueDPD flow cell. The tube needs to
be routed through the cable grip near the front bottom center of the box. The tube end should be routed
to a waste drain that is lower than the TrueDPD and should have no obstructions. If there is no drain
then a bucket can be used but it will need to be emptied a couple times a week.
Water In:
Attach a 1/4” “T” to the exit of the flow cell before the shut off valve. Attach the 1/4” NPT to
barb into the “T”. Route the inlet tube from the TrueDPD and attach to the barb. WARNING: If the
pressure is too high the tube may pop off of the barb fitting. The tube has a barb fitting on the flow cell
and inside the TrueDPD enclosure at the small pump. If inside the TrueDPD damage will occur to the
motors and circuitry. Make sure and use the tube clamps on the supply line.
MiniWarden Interface:
Connect the red interface wire to the TrueDPD input on the display board and
the black wire to GND. If there is no TrueDPD input connect the red wire to the Flow 2 connector.
Power Supply:
Plug the power supply into the power source. The power supply also supports 240 VAC.
If power source is 240 VAC then a suitable plug adapter may be needed. If there is no outlet, a short
extension cord can be used inside the controller enclosure allowing the 12V power supply to reside
inside the enclosure where it has additional protection.
