Safety instructions

The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to
observe these safety instructions. We do not assume any liability for
any consequential damage!

We do not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury
caused by improper handling or non-compliance with the safety
instructions! The warranty will be null and void in such cases.

• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is

inadmissible because of safety and approval reasons (CE). Never dis-
assemble the product.

• The design of the wall plug transformer complies with protection class II.

Use a proper mains socket only as power source for the power adapter.

• Only use the external power transformer supplied to power the unit.

• Do not pull the plug-in power supply unit from the mains socket by pulling

the cable

• The product is intended to be used in dry indoor locations only. The pro-

duct must not get damp or wet as this may damage it, there is danger of
a fatal electric shock!

• The device is not a toy. Keep devices that operate on the mains voltage out

of the reach of children! Therefore, be especially careful when children are
around.

Only use the product out of the reach of children. They may try to insert
items into the docking station; this will damage the docking station!

• Do not leave packing materials unattended. They may become

dangerous playthings for children.

• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or

accidental drops, even from a low height.

Driver Installation

The drivers are an integral part of the operating system; hence, no storage medium is
attached to the docking station. the docking station containing the plugged-in hard
disk works like a customary USB hard disk.

Connection

• Switch off the docking station (switch position „O“ = „OFF“).

• Connect the low-voltage from the transformer supplied to the correct input on the

rear of the docking station’s housing.

• Plug the wall plug transformer into a mains socket.

• Connect the USB3.0 connector at the rear of the docking station to a free USB3.0

port on your computer using the USB3.0 cable included in the delivery scope.

Naturally, a conventional USB2.0 or USB1.1 port of the computer can also be used
instead of a USB3.0 port. But then the transfer speed will be slower (USB2.0 max.
approx. 20-30 MByte/s, USB1.1 max. approx. 1MByte/s).

Before turning on the docking station, the SATA hard disk has to be
inserted, see section „Insertion of a Hard Disk“.

Inserting a Hard Disk

• First, switch off the docking station (on/off switch on the back, switch position „O“ =

„OFF“, LED is off).

• Insert a SATA hard disk vertically into the top opening in the casing of the docking

station so that the connecting strip of the SATA hard disk may fit exactly into the
connector inside the casing.

Grasp the hard disk laterally on the housing, do not touch the plate with the
electronics. Electrostatic discharge can destroy the hard disk and the
docking station.

Do not use force when plugging in! However, the terminal blocks on the
SATA hard disk must lock into place.

For 6.35cm-/2.5“ hard disks, please ensure without fail that they are
inserted vertically, as otherwise the plug-in contact of the hard disk and the
docking station will be damaged!

• Now switch on the docking station!

Removing a hard disk

• Terminate all access to the hard disk drive that is inserted in the docking station.

Close all opened files. Windows offers an icon here over the menu bar („Remove
hardware safety“).

• Switch off the docking station (on/off switch on the back, switchposition „O“ = „OFF“,

LED goes out).

• Wait at least 30 seconds, so that the magnetic disks can come to rest.

• Now pull the hard disk out of the docking station vertically upwards.

Grasp the hard disk laterally at the housing, do not touch the board
containing the electronics. Electrostatic discharge can destroy the hard
disk and the docking station.

Do not use force when extracting it!

Do not hold the hard disk at the edge! This is crucial most of all for 6.35cm-
/2.5“ hard disks!

Start-up

After connecting the docking station and inserting a hard disk, the docking station can
be activated (switch position „I“ = „ON“).

Windows automatically detects new hardware during the start-up and installs the
necessary drivers (these are integrated components of the operating system).

If the hard disk is completely new, and if the hard disk is not partitioned and
formatted, it will not appear in the Windows file manager as a new drive.
This is normal.  See section, „Partitioning / Formatting the Hard Drive“.

Partitioning / Formatting the Hard Drive

If a new hard disk is inserted in the docking station, it must be partitioned first
and then formatted before it can be used, e.g. before it can appear in the
Windows file manager.

• This is very easy in Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 over so-called

„Media Management“ (You will find this option e.g., in Windows XP in the Control
Panel under „Administrative Tools“ / „Computer Management“ / „Storage“).

Then, select the correct hard disk drive and create a new partition. Then format this.
