Water softeners
Soft water is required for efficient washing (water with low calcium content), otherwise limescale is created on the
dishes and in the interior of the dishwasher. Tap water which exceeds the given level of water hardness must be
softened before being used for washing purposes (meaning free of calcium). This is achieved by regenerating salt in the
softening unit of the dishwasher. Setting the unit and the required amount of salt depend on the hardness of tap water.
Water hardness is measured in equivalent degrees of hardness, German degrees °dH, French degrees °fH, British
degrees °Clarke and mmol/l (millimoles per litre - international unit for the hardness of water).
The softening unit should be set according to the hardness of the water used for the appliance. Contact your local
water utility company for information about the water hardness in your area. Set the dosage regulator manually
according to the table.
Setting the appliance according to the water hardness
1. Open the appliance door and use the on/off button (1) to turn the appliance on.
2. Press and hold the „P“ button over 5 seconds - The washing program selection button (2). After a certain time the
indicators of salt and water softener will start flashing alternately.
3. If the indicators of salt and softener flash alternately, you can press the button (2) to set the water hardness.
4. Press the button (2) to set the water hardness according to the quality of water in your area (H1-H6).
