Before Installing Components
You must shut down the operating system, turn off power to the
system, and unplug the power cord from each supply before installing
CPUs, memory DIMMs, PCI cards, or removable media devices.
NOTE: You can install a power supply for redundancy at any time without
shutting down the system.
WARNING: To prevent injury, access is limited to persons who
have appropriate technical training and experience. Such
persons are expected to understand the hazards of working
within this equipment and take measures to minimize danger to
themselves or others. These measures include:
1. Remove any jewelry that may conduct electricity.
2. If accessing the system card cage, power down the system and
wait 2 minutes to allow components to cool.
3. Wear an anti-static wrist strap when handling internal
components.
Follow the procedure below before installing CPUs, memory DIMMs, PCI cards,
or removable media devices:
1.
Shut down the operating system according to the instructions in the
operating system documentation.
2.
Shut down power on all external options connected to the system.
3.
Shut down power to the system.
4.
Unplug the power cord from each power supply.
5.
Become familiar with the location of the module slots and the configuration
rules given in this chapter.
