Example of redirecting the main
rope via an additional hanging
mechanism
If the user is working close to a verti-
cal trunk with minor lateral forces to
the working position, a secure foot-
hold may be sufficient to ensure a
safe working position. As soon as the
user moves away from the trunk,
additional measures must be taken in
order to reduce the increasing lateral
forces or to counteract such. For
example, by redirecting the main
rope via an additional hanging mech-
anism or by the use of an adjustable
noose which leads from the harness
to an additional hanging mechanism.
Example of a stirrup created using an
endless noose
In order to achieve a good foothold in the
working position, an endless noose may
temporarily be used as a supporting stir-
rup.
Starting the chain saw in the tree
When starting the chain saw in the tree,
the user must
A. activate the chain brake before start-
ing;
B. hold the chain saw to the left or right of
the body when starting:
1. hold the chain saw on the left with the
left hand on the front handle and the
chain saw pointing away from the
body whilst holding the starter cord in
the right hand, or
2. hold the chain saw on the right with the
right hand on one of the two handles
and the chain saw pointing away from
the body whilst holding the starter
cord in the left hand.
The chain brake should always be acti-
vated before the operating chain saw is
lowered on the carry rope.
