MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE
Ordinarily, there are no adjustments or maintenance required. If you need repairs, send the DVX to us. Call us for help
in diagnosing the problem, and to get a return authorization and shipping instructions.
Please save the original shipping carton and packing materials in case you need to ship it for any reason. If you are
unable to save the original shipping materials, you must wrap the DVX in at least 3” of bubble-pak or foam rubber
before shipping.

IMPORTANT
The primary thing that can go wrong with the DVX drive is that eventually the lasers will wear out. The lifetime of the
lasers varies considerably from drive to drive, so it is difficult to predict the lifetime. However, since recording discs
uses 10 times the laser power of playing back, using the DVX to record discs will shorten the laser’s life.
To make your DVX last as long as possible, please do not use it for recording
. Recording uses approximately 10
times more laser power as reading, and therefore will shorten the life of the laser.
Trouble Shooting
DVX Does Not Respond
Rarely, when testing a disc that is thoroughly unreadable, the system may hang and the DVX no longer responds to
commands. Since SATA drives are intended to be “hot swappable”, the operating systems constantly polls the drive to
see if it is still there. If the drive does not respond within one second Windows thinks that the drive is disconnected and
disables it. This can be remedied by re-booting the system.
Registry Settings
The DVX installation sets registry entries for proper operation. If for some reason you need to set these manually, the
settings are:
Windows 7 / Vista / XP / 2000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASPI32]
”ErrorControl” = dword:00000001
”Start” = dword:00000001
”Type” = dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASPI32\Parameters]
“Exclude Miniports” = “”
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer]
“NoDriveTypeAutoRun” = REG_DWORD: 0xB1
