Loading paper
The CI-90A’s label paper is stored in an internal compartment. To gain access to this
compartment, turn the unit on its side and unscrew the thumbscrews on the paper door. Insert
the paper roll onto the spindle (the roll comes correctly wound with the labels on the outer
circumference). The loose end of the label roll then needs to be hand-fed forward into the
printer. This must be done with the CI-90A powered on so that the user can press the [TOF]
button then feed the labels into the printer. The printer is equipped with an optical sensor that
detects when paper is being loaded. Once the paper is detected it will automatically spin the
roller mechanism for several seconds, so further insertion of the paper is necessary to cause it to
be grabbed by the roller mechanism and pulled into the printer. If the labels don’t feed or if you
are unable to press the labels in far enough and the rollers stop press [TOF] again and try again.
When the CI-90A is powered up with no paper loaded, the following screen appears:
The user then has two options. He can proceed without paper by pressing the
[
EXIT
] key, which will cause the main screen to appear and permit all functions including label
printing, which if used will cause a printer out of labels screen to appear. Or, he or she can load
paper as previously described. This will cause approximately one label to feed through the
printer. The following screen should still be shown:
If the labels do not appear to be aligned correctly (as is often the case after loading a new
roll), then press TOF (Top Of Form) to correctly position the next label. Pressing [
EXIT
] will
cause the main screen to appear and normal operation to proceed.
2.6.3
Label format
The printed labels contain basic information about the unit and the sample taken. They
identify the sample as taken by the CI-90A, the location entered by the user, the user name
entered, the unit name entered, the sample volume, the time completed, and the sample status
(this will always be OK if a printout is generated). The format of the label printout is as follows:
CI-90 UNIT ID: NAME OF UNIT USER ID: NAME OF USER
LOCATION ID: NAME OF SITE
SAMPLE VOL: 0.020 CM
02/07/05
SAMPLER STATUS: OK
