Cisco IP Phone 7960 and Cisco IP Phone 7940
Key Features
The Cisco IP Phone 7960 and Cisco IP Phone 7940 include the following key
features:
•
Cisco IP Phone 7960—Six programmable line/feature buttons and four
interactive soft keys.
•
Cisco IP Phone 7940—Two programmable line/feature buttons and four
interactive soft keys.
•
Two RJ-45 ports that support 10/100-Mbps half- or full-duplex connections
to external devices:
–
One connector connects the phone to the Catalyst switch, using a
straight-through cable; the phone can receive inline power from the
Catalyst switch over this connection.

The other connector connects the phone to a network device, such as a
computer, using a straight-through cable.
•
A minimum of 24 user-adjustable ring tones.
•
G.711 and G.729a audio compression.
•
H.323 and Microsoft NetMeeting compatibility.
•
A hearing-aid–compatible handset, which meets the American Disabilities
Act (ADA) requirements.
•
Messages—Identifies incoming calls and categorizes them on the screen. The
user can return calls quickly and effectively by using the direct dial-back
capability.
•
Directories—The corporate directory integrates with the Lightweight
Directory Access Protocol (LDAP3) standard directory.
•
Settings—The Settings feature key permits adjusting display contrast and
selecting ringer tone and volume settings for all audio, such as ringer,
handset, headset, and speaker.
•
Configuration—Can be configured automatically or set up manually for
Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP), Trivial File Transfer Protocol
(TFTP), Cisco CallManager, and backup Cisco CallManagers.
