Purpose
Command or Action
Enters cable interface configuration mode for the specified
cable interface.
interface cable x/y
Example:
Router(config)# interface cable 4/0
Step 3
Enables automatic power adjustment on an upstream port
for this cable interface.

}
Step 4
Example:
Router(config-if)# cable upstream 0 power-adjust
Repeat
for each upstream port on the cable
interface.
Note
threshold 2
Example:
Router(config-if)# cable upstream 0 power-adjust
noise 50
Specifies the percentage of frequency adjustment packets
needed to change the adjustment method from the regular
cable upstream n freq-adj averaging percent
Example:
Router(config-if)# cable upstream 0 freq-adj
Step 5
power-adjustment method to the automatic power
adjustment method.
averaging 50
Exits interface configuration mode.
exit
Example:
Router(config-if)# exit
Step 6
Exits global configuration mode.

Example:
Router(config)# exit
Step 7
What to Do Next
The default settings are adequate for system operation. Amplitude averaging is an automatic procedure.
In general, Cisco does not recommend that you adjust values. Cisco does recommend, however, that you
clean up your cable plant should you encounter flapping cable modems.
