Installing and Upgrading the CSC-C2FCIT FDDI Card and Appliques 29
Upgrading Microcode
Tools and Parts Required
Following are the tools and parts you need to upgrade the C2FCIT card:
•
EPROM extractor tool or a small (3/16-inch) flat-blade screwdriver
•
Medium flat-blade screwdriver (1/4-inch or larger if you are removing the AGS+ front access
panel for the first time)
•
Small needlenose pliers
•
Antistatic mat or antistatic foam for the removed C2FCIT card
•
One microcode EPROM for Microcode Version 10.3 (Part Number 17-0876-05)
•
One serial programmable read-only memory (PROM) device (Part Number 17-0878-04)
Note
C2FCIT Microcode Version 10.3 requires Software Release 9.1(1) or later. If your system is
running an earlier software release, you must upgrade the system software before you install this
microcode upgrade. Contact a customer service representative for upgrade information.
Caution
To prevent ESD damage to the EPROM, be sure to follow the procedures described in the
section “Preventing Electrostatic Discharge Damage” on page 8.
Removing the C2FCIT Card
Following is the procedure for removing the C2FCIT card from the chassis.
Warning
To avoid possible shock hazard or damage to the system cards, turn OFF power to the
chassis before accessing and removing any cards.
Step 1
Remove the front panel according to the procedure in the section “Chassis Access
Procedure” on page 14.
Step 2
Slip on an ESD-preventive wrist strap and connect it to the chassis as described in the
section “Preventing Electrostatic Damage” on page 8. To channel ESD voltages to ground,
make certain the power cord is connected, but that power is OFF.
Step 3
Position the chassis so that the open card cage is facing you for the remainder of this
procedure.
Step 4
Note the positions of each of the four ribbon cables attached to the connectors on the front
edge of the C2FCIT card (see Figure 18); they should be labeled as shown in Table 4. If
not, label them so that you reconnect them to the correct ports when you replace the card.
Step 5
Disconnect the four ribbon cables from the front of the C2FCIT card. It may be necessary
to disconnect cables from other cards in order to pull the C2FCIT out of the card cage. If
so, label the cables and their corresponding ports before disconnecting them.
Step 6
Use your thumbs to pull the ejector levers out and away from the card edge to loosen it and
pull the card out of its slot.
Step 7
Remove the C2FCIT card from the card cage slot and place it on an antistatic mat or
antistatic foam in the orientation shown in Figure 18.
