Connecting the External Fiber-Optic Cables
Following is the procedure for connecting the external FDDI cables. Refer to Figure 6 for an
illustration of the single-mode FDDI connector and to Figure 7 for illustrations of the single-mode
and multimode FDDI connectors.
Warning
Invisible laser radiation may be emitted from the aperture ports of the single-mode
appliques when no fiber cable is connected. Avoid exposure and do not stare into open apertures.
This product meets the Class 1 Laser Emission Requirement from CDRH FDDI.
Step 1
If you are not installing an optical bypass switch, skip to step 3.
Plug the male DIN connector (from the optical bypass switch) into the female DIN
connector on the APP-LMM applique, then plug the fiber-optic MIC cables from the
bypass switch into the PHY-A and PHY-B connectors on the FDDI applique.
Step 2
Connect the FDDI cables from the network into the PHY-A and PHY-B connectors on the
optical bypass switch. Up to 100 milliamperes of current can be supplied to the optical
bypass switch. A pinout of the DIN connector on the optical bypass switch is listed in
Table 5.
