SIOUX LIGHT
1. DESCRIPTION
1.1 System Description
Sioux Light is a perimeter protection system for fences and/or other structures. It comprises a
central control board (Sioux-CU), which can manage two lines of sensors (up to 14 per line: 2
master and 12 slave) that, when mounted on a perimeter fence, are able to detect the
disturbances caused by attempts to climb or cut the fence.
The Control Unit (CU) performs deep and sophisticated analysis of the electrical signals
generated by the sensors and allow discrimination between real intrusion attempts and possible
false alarms and can also identify the location of the damage or climbing.
The sensors located along the fence line detect the disturbances caused by an attempted
intrusion and convert them into electrical signals that are collected by each master board. Each
master board collect 7 electrical signals, convert them in digital format, assigns to each one a
proper address and then transmits these signals by an RS485 line to the Control Unit (CU).
When the Control Unit Analysis detects an attempt to climb or cut the fence, produces an alarm
event, stores it in a log file with the proper date/time and engineering values. The control unit is
then able to transfer the alarm data in real time to other control systems to activate relays for
alarm indication.
The types of fences can be divided into the following categories:
Woven wire mesh, welded, coated in plastic or galvanized
Concertina or taut wire fences
Rigid metallic bars or grids (Orsogrill type)
Swinging or sliding gates
