Safety of machinery – General principles of design – Risk assessment and risk reduction
.
The safety of any operations involving the Quarryman Pro system is the responsibility of the operator.
Information to the equipment supplier/ installer
It is the equipment supplier’s responsibility to ensure that the user is made aware of any hazards involved in any
operations involving the Quarryman Pro system, including those mentioned in Carlson product literature.
Laser Safety
DO NOT STARE DIRECTLY INTO THE BEAM
In accordance with BS EN 60825-1:2014 and US standards 21CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 except for deviations
pursuant to Laser Notice no. 50, dated June 24, 2007, the Quarryman Pro laser profiling system is classified as a
Class 2 combined invisible and visible laser product.
Protective eyewear is not deemed necessary, as the unit is designed to be safe for momentary exposures, but can
be hazardous for deliberate staring into the beam. Note that dazzle, flash blindness and after-images may result
upon eye exposure to the visible laser source, particularly under low ambient light conditions. Users are instructed
by labelling not to stare into the beam, i.e. avoid continuous intentional intrabeam viewing!
Eye protection, designed to provide adequate protection against specific laser wavelengths (905 nm typically), may
be used in hazard areas. Any exceptions should only be undertaken with the approval of the local laser safety
officer. All laser protective eyewear shall be clearly labelled with information adequate to ensure proper choice with
the particular laser. For the Quarryman Pro instrument, the recommended CE marked laser eyewear shall be
marked as “R 905 L1” as a minimum as specified to EN 207, or equivalent.
Do not stare into the beam or shine it into the eyes of others. It is safe to view a diffuse-reflected beam.
Do not dismantle the unit in any way; doing so may expose laser radiation in excess of Class 2 combined limits.
CAUTION: laser light is bright and blinding – do not shine at aircraft or vehicles at any distance.
