Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manual
Routine Maintenance
Due to its design and simplicity the NAVCO S30 ball valve requires very little maintenance. It’s non-lubricated,
self-cleaning ball can provide reliable, leak free performance over a long period of time. The only preventative
maintenance recommended is to periodically inspect the valve for leaks around the stem or actuator. Should a
leak be noticed, the following procedure is for adjusting the stem packing:
1.
Remove all line pressure from valve and body cavity.
2.
With a wrench, tighten the packing adjustment nut in a clockwise direction.
3.
Tighten only as much as required to stop any stem leak.
Caution: Excessive tightening of the packing adjustment nut will increase the torque required to
operate the valve.
Repair
Warning
: Before repairing or refurbishing a valve, ensure that the valve and line has been fully de-pressurized,
drained, and where necessary, purged of all toxic/explosive/flammable media.
Refer to Exploded Parts view on page 1 for part location.
Turn ball (02) to open position and remove handle nut (13), washer (12), handle (14), packing nut (10), packing
(07), and stop screw.
Loosen one bolt per side (in line with each other) and remove the remaining 6 bolts (09) and washers (08).
Separate caps to insure that clearance is present between body (01) and cap (02). The center body section (01)
of the valve will swing out for access to the ball (02), stem (11), seats (04), joint gasket (06), and body seals (16).
Valve ball must be in the open position in order to swing out the body section.
Remove body seals (16) using a sharp instrument, being careful not to damage the surfaces of the seal groove.
Remove joint gaskets (06) and seats (04). Rotate stem (11) to the full closed position and slide the ball (02) out
of the body.
Finally push the stem (11) down through the body and out the side, also removing the thrust washer (05).
