5.1
Start-up Operations
V
Open the air vent at the highest point of the solar sys-
tem.
V
To fill the hot water heater, open the shut-off valve loca-
tion in the tank fill connection.
V
Prior to heating the tank from the secondary source,
make sure to fill boiler and piping network with water.
Open vacuum breaker and purge valves as required.
V
Verify that the entire system, including all connections,
water lines and inspection port are water tight.

5.1.1
Operational information from contractor
The contractor shall inform the end user the proper oper-
ation maintenance of the boiler and solar system.

Inform the system owner of the following:
– Make sure that the P & T valve piping remain free of
obstructions at all times.
– Periodically check the operation of the boiler relief
valve by opening it manually.
– Contact a heating or service contractor when the
manual reset high limit trips frequently on the boiler.

In case of freezing or discontinued operation: drain the
solar tank completely, including the lower portions of
the tank.

Inform the end user regarding annual maintenance pro-
cedures to ensure a lifetime of trouble free operation.

Hand all installation documentation to the end user.
The pressure testing of the domestic hot wa-
ter system should only be conducted with
fresh water. The maximum test pressure shall
not exceed 145 psi (10bar).
Caution:
Potential tank damage due to high
operating pressures.

Make sure that the P & T valve piping re-
main free of obstructions at all times.
