SECTION J

WEBASTO HEATER (Fitted as Optional Extra)

1.

Introduction

The Webasto Heater operates on diesel fuel drawn from the centre fuel tank in
the boat and has a heating capacity of 12000 BTU/Hr. The fuel supply is taken

straight from the main tank and an isolating cock is fitted in the supply line.

Cold air is drawn into the heater unit from a cowled inlet on the port side of the
boat. The cold air blower then drives the air over the annular passages of the

heat exchanger and from thence the warmed air is circulated via the distribution

trunking to three outlet ducts situated as follows:-

i) Forward cabin (side of port bunk)

ii) Saloon (Port side)

iii) Aft cabin (near wardrobe)

In warm weather the equipment can be used to circulate air at ambient
temperature through the distribution system.

2.

Operating Procedure

The heater control panel is situated on the front of the sideboard directly to port
of the steering position.

Starting

Rotate the switch clockwise to the “Start” position. The switch will slowly return
to the “fullheat” position. On starting the glowplug becomes energised, indicated

by the yellow lamp. After approximately 20-30 seconds, the motor will start, and

the solenoid valve being energised, fuel will enter heater and combustion

commences. When the heat builds up, the heat detector thermostat will operate,

holding in the relay, indicated by the green lamp. Operation time is
approximately two minutes.

Reduced Heat

Having obtained a green light the unit can be switched to “reduced heat” by
turning the switch on stop in anti-clockwise direction. This will reduce motor

speed which reduces heat output and airflow. If this position is held for long

periods remember to switch to “full heat” for approximately three to five minutes

before switching off.

Switching Off

Turn switch to “off” position. This de-energises the solenoid valve, cutting off the

fuel supply. Combustion ceases, but the motor continues running, purging out the
exhaust gases and cooling the unit. After approximately three minutes the heat

detection thermostat will return to cold contact, switching off motor and green

lamp.
