Carburetor and Carburetor Overhaul Kit
Consult the Illustrated Parts List for the correct carburetor
and carburetor overhaul kit for your engine.
Remove Carburetor
WARNING
Before servicing the carburetor or other fuel system
components, drain fuel tank by running engine until fuel
tank is empty and turn OFF the fuel valve (if equipped).
Do not attempt to stop the fuel flow by plugging the fuel
hose.
1.
Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug (A). Secure
spark plug wire away from spark plug.
2.
Remove air cleaner assembly (C), control panel trim
(D) and control bracket (Z) as instructed in
Remove
Control Bracket found in Section 5.
3.
Slide fuel line clamp (B) away from carburetor (U).
Remove fuel line from carburetor fitting.
4.
Carefully slide carburetor away from engine until it
stops. Then remove the spring (E) and linkage (F) from
the throttle lever (G).
NOTE: Linkage slides straight up and out from groove of
throttle lever when at idle.
5.
Slide carburetor completely off of studs.
Disassemble Carburetor
1.
Place a container under the carburetor bowl and remove
the drain plug (K) and washer (M).
2.
Remove bowl nut (H) and fiber washer (J) and then
remove the bowl (N) and rubber gasket (P). Discard
the fiber washer and rubber gasket.
3.
Remove float hinge pin (S) and then remove the float
(R).
4.
Remove inlet needle (W) and spring (X) from float.
NOTE: Hold spring and inlet needle firmly during
disassembly to avoid losing spring.
5.
Remove main jet (T) from carburetor.
Inspect and Clean Carburetor
1.
Inspect openings in the carburetor body for evidence
of wear or damage. If found, replace the entire
carburetor assembly.
2.
Inspect choke shaft, choke valve, throttle shaft, and
throttle valve for evidence of wear or damage. Replace
parts as necessary.
3.
Using Carb/Choke Cleaner p/n 100041, p/n 100042 or
ultrasonic cleaner, thoroughly clean the following
components, then follow with compressed air to dry:
• Passages in the main jet
• Inside and outside of the fuel bowl
• Float
• Choke shaft and choke valve
• Throttle shaft and throttle valve
• All passages, openings, and the inside and outside
of the carburetor body
NOTICE Do not soak the carburetor or non-metallic
components, such as floats or seals in carb/choke cleaner
or they will be damaged.
4.
If any passages remain plugged after cleaning, replace
the component or the entire carburetor assembly.
Assemble Carburetor
Consult the Illustrated Parts List to obtain the appropriate
carburetor overhaul kit before reassembling the carburetor.
1.
Install main jet (T) into carburetor. Tighten main jet
securely, but do not over-tighten.
2.
Install new inlet needle (W) and spring (X) onto float
(R).
NOTE: Hold spring and inlet needle firmly during assembly
to avoid losing spring.
3.
Install float and then install the float hinge pin (S).
4.
Install new rubber gasket (P), bowl (N), new fiber
washer (J) and bowl nut (H).
NOTE: Make sure rubber gasket is seated properly in
groove of carburetor.
Torque bowl nut to the value listed in
Section 14 -
Engine Specifications.
5.
Install drain plug (K) and washer (M). Torque drain plug
to the value listed in
Section 14 - Engine
Specifications.
Install Carburetor
NOTE: Always replace air cleaner gaskets and carburetor
mounting gaskets any time the carburetor has been
removed for service.
