9.
Insert the other end of rope into handle (M) and tie a
knot (S) to secure it. Fit knot into opening of handle.
10. Hold rope (L) firmly while removing screwdriver (Q).
Then slowly allow rope to rewind itself on pulley.
85
11. Install rewind starter assembly (B through M) on blower
housing (A) and secure using screws (K). Torque
screws to the value listed in
Section 14 - Engine
Specifications.
Disassemble Rewind Starter
1.
Hold rewind assembly firmly and pull out rope (L) until
pulley (G) stops.
NOTE: Spring tension in pulley will increase as rope is
pulled out.
86
2.
Line up holes of rewind pulley (N) and rope eyelet (P)
and secure pulley assembly with a screwdriver (Q) to
prevent it from retracting.
87
3.
Cut through middle of rope (L) and then remove pieces
from pulley (G) and handle (M).
4.
Hold pulley (G) firmly while removing screwdriver.
Slowly allow spring to unwind completely.
NOTE: Never allow pulley to free-wheel or damage may
occur to spring.
5.
Remove screw (B) and then remove the pawl friction
plate (C).
6.
Remove friction spring (D).
7.
Remove two pawls (F) and two pawl springs (E).
WARNING
The starter spring is still under tension when the rope is
removed and the pulley has no spring pressure against
it. Wear eye protection to prevent eye injury while
disassembling and reassembling starter pulley and spring.
8.
Carefully remove the pulley and spring assembly (G
and H).
Inspect Rewind Starter
1.
Inspect the pulley for wear, cracks, rough edges, or
burrs in the rope groove and look for wear in the center
hole. If wear or damage is found, replace the
pulley/spring assembly.
2.
Inspect the pulley spring for broken ends, kinks, or
burrs. If damage is found, replace the pulley/spring
assembly.
3.
Inspect the starter housing for wear or burrs at the rope
eyelet, the center pivot post, and the anchor tab. If
damage is found, replace the housing.
4.
Inspect the drive pawls for wear at the tips or pivot
points. Replace pawls if worn.
