Remove Rewind Starter
1. Remove screws (K) and then remove rewind starter
assembly (B through M) from blower housing (A).
Replace Rewind Starter Rope
NOTE: Consult the Illustrated Parts List or Section 14 -
Engine Specifications for the correct diameter and length
of rope.
1. If rewind starter assembly (B through M) is not already
removed, remove screws (K) and then remove the
rewind starter from blower housing (A).
2. Inspect the starter assembly for wear or burrs at the
rope eyelet. If damage is found, replace the rewind
starter housing (J).
3. If any other damage is found, repair as instructed in this
section, prior to replacing starter rope.
4. Hold rewind assembly firmly and pull out rope (L) until
pulley (G) stops.
NOTE: Spring tension in pulley will increase as rope is
pulled out.

5. Line up holes of rewind pulley (N) and rope eyelet (P)
and secure pulley assembly with a screwdriver (Q) to
prevent it from spinning.

6. Cut through middle of rope (L) and then remove pieces
from pulley (G) and handle (M).
7. Insert one end of new rope through pulley (N) and rope
eyelet (P).
NOTE: Make sure that both ends of rope are sealed to
prevent fraying and ease installation. Sealing is typically
accomplished by melting rope ends.

8. Tie a knot at end of rope on pulley side (R). Fit knot into
recess of pulley.
