3. WORKING
PRINCIPLE
We have based our body fat percentage measurement on the principle of the BIA
(Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis). Body impedance is measured when a small and safe
electronic signal is passed through the body; impedance is greatest in fat tissue, while
fat-free mass allows the signal to pass much more easily. By using the impedance
measurements, along with a person’s height, weight, age and gender, the body fat
percentage can be calculated.
1) FACTORS AFFECTING BODY FAT PERCENTAGE
Body fat percentage is affected by body hydration. Several hours after getting up our
body fat percentage will change as the body’s water hydration changes. To assure the
accuracy of body fat percentage we advise to measure in the evening. There will be a
slight difference in the reading of the body fat percentage when you measure yourself
at different times of the day. Measuring under consistent conditions (same time of the
day and same conditions) will yield the best results.
Body fat percentage is also affected by the following factors: diet, drinking excessive
alcohol, heavy exercise and certain prescription drugs of diuretics, illness, or a
woman’s menstrual cycle.
