Bus
Common path in a unit or station, in which the
signals from a certain number of transmission
channels pass, being separated from one another
by time division multiplexing.
Connection
Path of the transmission between any two inter-
faces of the generic wiring. It excludes unit cords
and work areas.
Command
Signal (message) which is sent from a control de-
vice to an actuator.
Configuration of devices
Processing of instructions, performed with special
software or equipment, so that the devices of the
automation system perform the desired functions.
Device
In a generic mode, any physical apparatus, ac-
tive or passive, which allows the performance of
certain functions. Based on its use, the device can
be further classified as operative, system, coupler,
dedicated, connection.
Control device
Device that sends a signal to the input device.
Control devices include switches, sensors, con-
tacts, etc.
Wiring
System of telecommunications cables, cords and
connections parts that allow connection of infor-
mation technology equipment.
Twisted pair
The pair is typically composed of pair of wires
that are twisted through a process of doubling.
Doubling of the pair is performed so that external
magnetic fields on average have the same effect on
the two leads.
Gateway
Unit that connects the various networks or parts of a
network, and which performs any protocol transla-
tions that may be necessary.
Interface
Device that makes it possible to connect, and to inter-
act with each other, devices with different technolog-
ical features or to use different means of transmission.
An interface is also defined as a set of information and
the possible controls that are presented to the user
on the display or other similar devices.
Node
In an abstract sense, a node is the point of intersec-
tion of one or more paths of the communications
channel (bus or radio frequency).
Repeater
A repeater is an electronic device that receives a
weak signal and re-transmits it with a higher and
stronger signal, so that the signal can be ensured
over long distances without degrading.
Shield
Shield used to minimize interference between the
cable parts and to protect the cables and con-
nected equipment from foreign electrical and/or
magnetic fields and to reduce the emission of
electro-magnetic radiation generated by the ap-
plications connected to the wiring.
Tamper
Device that detects any attempts to tamper with
the system.
Touch screen
This screen allows the user to interact with the sys-
tem by touching the sensitive areas of the screen.
