Commissioning

NOTICE:

Collector damage from evaporation in the solar circuit or frozen
water!

▶ Only flush and fill the solar thermal system when the sun is not

shining on the collectors and no frost (if purging with water) is
expected.

▶ Carry out tightness test. Observe the permitted pressures for all

assemblies.

Fig. 58   Check all connections for leakage

10.1

Lightning protection and equipotential bonding

Necessity of lightning protection

▶ Check regional regulations as to whether a lightning protection

system is required.

The lightning conductor is often required in the following cases:

• Building height of over 20 m
• Buildings that are significantly taller than surrounding buildings
• Buildings considered in need of high protection

(e.g. schools, hospitals and high-rise buildings)

Equipotential bonding for the thermal solar system

If a lightning protection system is installed or required:
▶ Establish whether the thermal solar system is located outside the

protective area of the existing lightning protection system.

▶ Have a qualified electrician check the connection of the system to this

equipment.

▶ Earth the installation system and metallic potable water pipes with a

ground wire (e.g. copper ≥ 16 mm

2

) to the equipotential rail.

▶ Lightning protection must only be installed by a qualified electrician.

storage tank profile rail

10.2

Filling the potable water circuit

CAUTION:

Risk of injury from falling storage tank.

Only filling with water ensures sufficient stabilisation of the storage tank.

▶ Never leave the system before the filling process of the potable water

circuit has been completed.

▶ Install a filter if required.
▶ Turn on the DHW tap until the pipework is filled.

10.3

Filling the solar circuit

CAUTION:

Risk of injury from contact with heat transfer medium!

▶ When handling heat transfer medium, always wear protective gloves

and goggles.

▶ If heat transfer medium comes into contact with skin: wash the

affected areas with water and soap.

▶ If heat transfer medium comes into contact with eyes: holding eyelids

wide open, thoroughly wash eyes with running water and consult a
doctor.

▶ Operate the thermal solar system using heat transfer medium L.

Other heat transfer media are not permitted.

The heat transfer fluid is pre-mixed and ready to use (70 % water, 30 %
propylene glycol). It guarantees safe operation down to -14 °C, protects
the system from frost damage and ensures high steam safety.

Water as a heat transfer medium

 section "Intended use".

NOTICE:

Risk of property damage from unsuitable heat transfer medium.

Using an unsuitable heat transfer medium can damage the thermal solar
system through frost or chemical reactions.

▶ Only fill the thermal solar system with a heat transfer medium

approved by the manufacturer.

Do not

mix different heat transfer media together.

▶ If the thermal solar system is not in use for more than 4 weeks: cover

the collectors.

The heat transfer medium is biodegradable. A

safety data sheet

 with

further information can be requested from the manufacturer.

Table 14  Required amount of heat transfer medium

▶ Fill the storage tank with heat transfer medium L from the top until it

begins escaping from the filler.
