General
All ovens have a ceramic tiled hearth and are heated by sheathed tubular elements
situated in the top of the oven and below the hearth. All elements are controlled by
the thermostat from 150-350°C (300-650°F). In addition the bottom element is under
the control of a three heat switch, whilst the top elements inner and outer coils are
each controlled by Energy Regulators. Pilot lamps indicate which elements are
turned on, and will go out when the oven reaches the correct temperature.
Controls
When pre-heating the oven use only the bottom elements. Ovens fitted with a tiled
hearth take much longer to preheat from cold than a conventional oven as it is the
purpose of the tiles to store heat and then act as a reservoir distributing the heat
evenly throughout the oven. If the top elements are used during preheating, this
radiant heat will cause the thermostat to switch off long before the bottom element
has heated the hearth. As a guide, i.e only the bottom element is used for pre-
heating from cold, it will take approximately one hour to reach 200°C.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
To set timer, turn to 60 minutes then
back to the required time. When
complete, the timer will ring for about
three seconds. The timer does not
turn the oven off.
An efficient ventilating system which is fully adjustable is fitted to each oven. The
vent control is located between the control panel and door. The vent should only be
opened the minimum amount to evacuate surplus steam from the oven.
Recommendations
The oven should be pre-heated with the bottom element only to evenly heat the
hearth and oven panels. For many products, cooking can best be carried out by
placing them directly on the tiled hearth. An optional extra steel hearth cover is
available to reduce the wear on baking trays - when used directly on the tiled hearth.
Some products such as certain types of sponges, Madeira cakes etc are best cooked
with an air gap between them and the tile to avoid overcooking the bottom of the
goods due to direct heat. The wire rack supplied may be placed directly on the
hearth, or any of the support brackets above. In addition to placing the goods on the
wire rack above the tiles, the bottom elements may be reduced to "MED" or "LOW"
settings and the top elements increased until a balance of bottom to top heating is
achieved.
