The Peripheral Sharer supports HP
Explorer Remote Control Panel
software automatically. Remember
that the Peripheral Sharer may
timeout during your Remote
Control Panel session if it is in auto-
scan mode and another user prints
to the printer. This does not
generally cause a problem. However,
if you wish to have guaranteed
exclusive use of the printer while you
are using the Explorer software, you
may use the SMART.EXE program
supplied with the Peripheral Sharer
(see
Section 6.1
) or select the
computer manually using the front-
panel keypad of the Peripheral
Sharer.

ONITOR
This program is designed for use by
a single user only. It communicates
continuously with the printer,
preventing other users from printing
or accessing the printer in auto-scan
mode. We recommend that you do
not use the DOS status monitor with
the Peripheral Sharer. Consider
using the Windows printer status
monitor instead.

RINTING
For normal printing operations, the
Peripheral Sharer will share the
LaserJet 4 automatically.

OFTWARE
The Explorer software suite consists
of a Remote Control Panel program
that can be used with the Peripheral
Sharer and a Status Monitor
program. This is inconvenient to
use in a shared-printer environment.
During installation of your Explorer
software, you should make sure that
the installation program does not
install the Status Monitor in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Allow the
installation program to create an
example AUTOEXEC.BAT program
instead.
