Peripheral Sharer
The Peripheral Sharer software
utilities are supplied with your unit.
6.1 SMART.EXE
This is a DOS program that allows
you to instruct the Peripheral Sharer
to remain connected to your PC
until further notice. This is useful
when you wish to make sure that you
have uninterrupted use of a
peripheral while you are running an
application such as a tape backup
package or a printer control panel
program.

SMART communicates with the
Peripheral Sharer until it makes a
connection to the peripheral. It then
runs the specified program and
returns the Peripheral Sharer to
auto-scan mode when the user quits.
The process is equivalent to the user
selecting a fixed port using the
Peripheral Sharer’s key, running
their application program and then
using the key to select auto-scan
mode. The command format is:
SMART (program & options) LPTx
where x=1, 2 or 3; (program &
options) is the program to run with
any associated options that would
normally be added to the DOS
command line.
For example, if the required
command line for a tape backup
program is BPBACKUP, then use:
SMART BPBACKUP LPT1
