8.8 Autodialing
Some telephone systems will not support autodialing
(the ability to have the modem/fax dial the number of
the system you are trying to connect with). You can
perform a simple test to find out if the phone system the
Linc Up is connected to will support autodialing. In the
United States, the test is accurate for about 95% of
phone systems. (It won’t work in other countries.) The
test is called the dial-tone timeout test (DTT) and works
as follows:
1. Lift the telephone handset from cradle and access
an outside line, this may involve dialing a prefix
such as a “9” on the telephone.
2. Listen to the dial tone until it times out. The dial
tone should time out within 15 seconds.
