8. Testing three-phase test objects by means of the CEE measuring adapter (5-pin, active)
8.1 Preparations for measuring
Operate and store the BENNING ST 720 Appliance Tester and the measuring adapter at the
specified storage and operating temperatures only! Do not permanently expose the devices to
sunlight.
- Please observe the specified data for nominal voltage and nominal current.
- Strong sources of interference in the vicinity of the BENNING ST 720 Appliance Tester
and of the measuring adapter might involve unstable readings and measuring errors of the
BENNING ST 720 Appliance Tester.
Please observe the operating manual of the BENNING ST 720 Appliance Tester!
Before using, always check the device, the measuring adapter, the leads and
the test object for damages.
Make sure not to exceed the maximum nominal voltage/ nominal current of
the measuring adapter! Damages due to overload are excluded from possible
warranty claims.
The plug of the measuring signal cable
A
can be connected with the mains
connection socket
K
of the BENNING ST 720 in one position only. Do not exert
force to the plug of the mains connection cable in order to avoid damaging of
the BENNING ST 720.
8.2 Switching the BENNING ST 720 ON/ OFF
- Press and hold the keys
2
and
3
for approx. 3 seconds to switch the BENNING ST 720 on.
Acoustic signals confirm that the device is switched on. Press the keys again to switch the
device off.
- After approx. 2 minutes, the BENNING ST 720 switches off automatically (
APO
,
A
uto
P
ower-
O
ff). It switches on again when the keys
2
and
3
are pressed. An acoustic signal
indicates that the device has switched off automatically.
8.3 Measuring the protective conductor resistance and the protective conductor current
by means of the CEE measuring adapter (5-pin, active)
Before testing, carry out a visual inspection of the test object. In case of
possible damages, the test must be stopped.
Before starting the automatic test procedure by pressing the
key
7
, make
sure that the test cable with alligator clip of the BENNING ST 720 Appliance
Tester has been attached to a conductive metal part of the test object. If an
external voltage is applied to the metal part, the test procedure is blocked
automatically and a warning is shown on the display
8
. Non-observance might
involve damaging of the BENNING ST 720 Appliance Tester.
- Connect the measuring signal cable
A
of the measuring adapter to the mains connection
socket
K
of the BENNING ST 720 Appliance Tester.
- Connect the CEE plug of the test object with the CEE coupling
C
of the measuring adapter.
- Connect the CEE plug
B
of the measuring adapter to a protected supply mains 3 x 400 V,
N, PE, 50 Hz, for 16 A measuring adapter (044140) or 32 A measuring adapter (044141).
- Connect the 4 mm safety plug of the test lead with alligator clip with the 4 mm safety socket
9
of the BENNING ST 720 and establish a connection with a metal part of the test object.
- Press the
-key
7
to start the automatic testing procedure.
- If a contact voltage is applied to the metal part of the test object, measurement will be inter-
rupted and the following warning will be shown on the display
