How to prepare Espresso coffee.
1. After carrying out the pre-heating of the machine as described above, remove
the filter holder by turning it clockwise. Make sure any coffee grounds from the
previous infusion are removed. Add ground coffee to the filter using the spoon
provided (the filters will hold enough coffee for one or two cups), then press the
ground coffee tightly with the tamper, the coffee needs to be tampered to achieve
a good crema on top of the coffee.
2. Remove any excess coffee from around the rim of the filter holder; otherwise you
will not get a good seal. Attach the filter holder to the machine by positioning it
under the boiler outlet with the handle towards the left of the unit and turn the
handle towards the centre to the “lock” position (see Fig. 1).
3. Pour out the hot water from the cup (from pre-heating), and place the cup back
under the filter holder, making sure the cup or cups line up with the dispensing
holes on the filter holder.
4. When the thermostat indictor light is green, turn the control dial clockwise to
the cup symbol ( ) on the control dial to initiate the flow of coffee. Once the
desired quantity of coffee has been obtained, turn the control dial back to the
pre-heat setting ( ). The longer the coffee is allowed to flow the weaker the
flavour will be.
5. To remove the filter, turn the holder clockwise, and make sure this is done after
the coffee has finished flowing; do not do this while brewing coffee.
6. To remove the used coffee, tap the coffee out of the filter by turning it over.
Take care as the filter holder will be very HOT.
7. Turn the control dial to the centre to the (OFF) position if you do not require any
frothed milk.
How to Steam/Froth Milk
This is perfect for making your own Latte and Cappuccinos just like a true Barista!
To make the perfect steamed or frothed milk you will need a suitable container to
do this in, remembering that the milk will double in size, a small stainless steel jug is
the best. Whole or semi-skimmed milk straight from the fridge is recommended.
1. Prepare the espresso coffee first by following the instructions
detailed above.
2. Turn the control dial anti-clockwise to the steam position (
),
wait for the thermostat indicator light to illuminate (see Fig. 3).
3. Fill a jug with approximately 100ml of milk per cappuccino/
150ml for a Latte.
4. Place the jug underneath the steam spout, with the steam spout
in the milk, then turn the steam control knob slowly in an
anti-clockwise direction. Steam will come out from the spout,
giving the milk a creamy frothy appearance. To obtain more froth insert the spout
to the bottom of the jug and rotate in a circular motion to just underneath the
surface of the milk. You will be able to tell if the milk is at the desired temperature
by feeling the outside of the jug. Take care - the jug will get HOT! Do not boil
the milk, as this will spoil the flavour.
5. To stop steam production, turn the dial in the opposite direction.
6. The secret is to tap the jug on the counter; this will ensure all the foam is at the top
of the jug. Pour the steamed milk into the espresso to make a Latte or both steam
milk and froth to make a cappuccino. Finish with a dusting of cocoa power or
cinnamon and sweeten to taste.
