3.3.1.2 SDL3 operation with SDL3 Converter via DVI
When operating SDL3 with an SDL3 Converter (5COSD3.1000-00) via DVI, communication between an industrial
PC and the SDL3 Converter is handled using a DVI cable and USB type A/B cable. The Automation Panel is
connected to the SDL3 Converter using an SDL3 cable. The touch screen data from the multi-touch screen is
transferred via the USB type A/B cable.
The Automation Panel can be up to 100 m away from the SDL3 Converter; USB 2.0 is fully integrated in the SDL3
transfer and transferred over this distance. The maximum distance for transferring data between the B&R industrial
PC and SDL3 Converter is 5 m; USB 2.0 is transferred via a USB type A/B cable.

•
Firmware updates are not possible.
•

3.3.2 General limitations/characteristics
•
USB 2.0 transfer is limited to 30 Mbit/s with SDL3.
•
A display is always emulated by the SDL3 Converter using EDID data and hot plug detection on SDL3
Out, so DVI-compatible operation is possible. For this reason, the following behavior may occur during
operation with multiple displays. In the operating system, a connected panel is reported by the video driver
even in the following situations:
°
No SDL3/SDL4 cable is connected.
°
There is no connection established yet between the SDL3 link module and SDL3 Converter.
This behavior can be avoided by appropriate configuration in BIOS or via the graphics driver.
