DIP-Switch or Strap Settings for Bally System
5000
Version
5
Software
The Version 5 software for the System 5000 uses the Piggyback ROM Board and 6
EPROM's. These are the existing Version 3 Personality EPROM's, along with new
Main and Supplemental EPROM's. The Version 5 software uses the 8-position
jumper-shunt with breakage straps to select from the payback percentages progr
amm
ed
into the Personality EPROM's. When the Version 5 software and Piggyback ROM
Board have been installed, you must select the percentage desired by breaking the
desired jumper shunt by piercing the proper hole with a blunt object.
The current percentage is indicated on the Personality EPROM label as a 4-digit value
after the EPROM number (xx-xx). Use the table below to fmd the strap setting
equivalent to your EPROM percentage.

There are 255 possible strap combinations. The chart above is used as a guide. Any
setting not shown can be arrived at using binary arithmetic. Every possible strap follows
this pattern.
If strap setting are changed after the initial power-up of the machine with the Piggyback
ROM Board, the machine enters a tilt mode. The previous and current strap settings are
displayed on the monitor during this tilt. The jumper straps must be returned to their
original settings or the Safe
RAM
cleared to allow new settings to be made.
