RUNNING THE LOGGER
Before running the Configurator the logger must be connected to the computer. Use the free serial port, a RS232 / RS485 or USB /
RS485 converter and suitable cables for the connection.
Figure 1 – Overview of the communication system
Note: The logger basic configuration is factory set (communication address 1, baud rate 9600, no parity, etc). The first
configuration must be accomplished in a point-to-point connection with the computer. After it is configured with a specific
communication address, among other parameters, it can be installed in a communication network together with other devices.
When you try to run the Configurator software there is an attempt of immediate communication with the connected logger. If
communication is successful, the Configurator is fully loaded and the logger configuration is read and displayed. Settings are then
allowed to be changed.
In case there is a communication fault, only the communication screen is loaded. It displays the communication parameters used in
communication attempts. Selected serial port, baud rate, address and parity.
For a new communication attempt, the user must:
•
Check connections;
•
Check if the serial port displayed in the communication screen is the same as the selected one;
•
Check if the serial port selected is really free in the computer;
After checking those items, press Search in the Automatic Search (valid only for a point-to-point connection). If communication is
successful, the Configurator software is fully loaded.
