The Prioritization of Network Applications and Network Devices
•
Prioritized applications
This category is suitable for applications that require a
fast reaction time (for example, company access, termi-
nal applications, games).
–
For network applications prioritized in this category,
90% of the FRITZ!Box’s upload bandwidth is avail-
able, as long as no application from the “Real-time
applications” category requires bandwidth. The re-
maining 10% of the upload bandwidth is available
for applications that are prioritized in lower catego-
ries or not prioritized at all.
–
If multiple network applications are assigned to the
“Prioritized applications” category, then they must
share the available capacity.
•
Background applications
This category is suitable for applications that do not re-
quire any high transmission speed and which are not
time-critical (for example, peer-to-peer services or auto-
matic updates).
–
Network applications assigned to this category are
always treated with the lowest priority when the In-
ternet connection is working at full capacity. So
whenever an application from a different category or
a non-prioritized application requires the entire
bandwidth, all background applications must wait
until bandwidth capacity becomes available again.
–
If no other network applications are active, then the
background applications receive the entire band-
width.
Network applications and network devices are assigned to
the categories using rules.
