5. TRIDA-PRE CONTROL PANEL
The TridA-Pre plug-in can be used as a Single Channel (mono) plug-in or as a Double
Channel plug-in. When in Double Channel, we can use it in the traditional Stereo mode (Left/
Right) or the special Mid/Side mode (M/S). We can also use it as a Dual Mono (each channel
works independently).
When in Single Channel configuration, the plug-in has just one column of EQ controls,
and the preamp section also has fewer controls. The Single Channel configuration is
automatically loaded when we use the plug-in with mono tracks.

5.1.1. Single Channel EQ Section
When working in Single Channel, we have only one column in the EQ section. This is the
configuration that matches the channels of the Trident® A Range®, which were mono.
Now, let’s take a close look at all the controls. On top we have the Low Pass Filters (to cut the
highs). As we said above, we have not one but three filters, each one switchable by pressing
the corresponding button. We can press one, two or all three of the switch buttons.
Each button activates filtering for one particular frequency: 9k, 12k and 15k. So, to cut
frequencies above 15kHz, we press the button on the right. To cut frequencies above 12kHz,
we press the button on the middle, and to cut frequencies above 9k we press the button on
the left. By default, all filters are turned Off.
One could think that if we press just the 9k button we would have all frequencies above that
one cut, but that’s not exactly what happens. The filter doesn’t exactly “cut” all frequencies
above the cutoff point – it attenuates them, with a certain slope (as we said, the slope for the
Low Pass Filters is -12dB per octave). So, the slope of the filters is soft, and is also program
dependent. However, we can have a higher slope, by pressing two or all three filter buttons
at the same time. So, by pressing all buttons, we obtain a higher cutoff slope. This also
causes some frequency peaks that, although strange, were regarded as musical.
