Power
Power is supplied to the camera head in the form of a single voltage. Regulators within the camera head
create all the voltages needed for the FPGA and image sensors.
Timing and Synchronization
The CCU provides a clock and data signal for synchronizing and communicating with the camera head.
This clock is also the reference clock video transport of video data to the CCU. Both the clock and data
lines are transmitted up the cable to the camera head.
Image Sensor Control
The UHD/4K camera head contains three image sensors attached to a prism assembly with color
separation into red, green, and blue spectrums. The HD camera head contains a single RGB sensor.
These sensors are driven by a complete timing generator within the FPGA.
Video and Return Data
The three channels (red, green and blue) of the UHD/4K camera head and one channel of combined
RGB video from the HD camera head are transmitted along with the status and control data to the CCU.
Buttons
The camera head FPGA detects the movement of two Hall-effect buttons through the use of an ADC
converter. This position information is continuously sent down on the SDI cable along with the Video
Data signal for interpretation by the CCU.
Head Cable
The control and clock signals from the CCU to the camera head and the status and video signals from the
camera head to the CCU are transported through a multi-conductor silicon rubber cable assembly. The
cable is attached to the camera head and has a sea
led card edge for insertion into the CCU’s isolation
board.
High Speed Signal Conditioning
The camera head c
able assembly’s proximal end contains circuitry for receiving and repeating the high
speed video signals. This repeater re-drives the signal over the card edge to the isolation board.
