SPARK PLUGS
Carefully read p. 84 (MAINTENANCE).
CAUTION
Halve service intervals when the vehicle
is used in rainy or dusty conditions, on
rough roads or for racing.
CAUTION
You must clean and/or replace, one by
one, all four spark plugs.
Clean the spark plugs every 6,250 mi
(10,000 km); replace them every 12,250 mi
(20,000 km).
If you use your vehicle for competition,
change the spark plugs every 3,125 mi
(5,000 km).
Periodically remove the spark plugs and
clean them carefully, removing carbon
deposits; replace them if necessary.
The frequency with which this operation
must be carried out will vary with the use of
the vehicle. However, spark plugs must be
cleaned and replaced no less often than
described above.
CAUTION
Even if only one spark plug needs
replacing, always change all of them.
TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE SPARK
PLUG
WARNING
Before carrying out the fo llowing
operations, let the engine and the
exhaust silencer cool down until they
reach room temperature.
Failure to observe this warning can lead
to serious burns.

Lift the fuel tank, see p. 117 (LIFTING
THE FUEL TANK).
NOTE
The vehicle is equipped with one
spark plug for each cylinder.
The following operations refers to the
spark plug installed in one cylinder only,
but is valid for the plug of both cylinders.
TO REMOVE THE SPARK PLUG
CAUTION
Never disconnect the spark plug cap
with the engine running, since you may
get an electric shock from the ignition
system.
Do not reverse the position of the two
spark plug caps.
Do not remove the two spark plug caps
at the same time.

Remove the spark plug cap (1).
WARNING
During this operation, always wear
goggles which provide your eyes with
360
° protection. Be very careful using
compressed air jets, they can cause
serious personal injury if directed
towards your body.
X Using compressed air, blow all the dirt
away from the base of the spark plug.
NOTE
Use the special wrenches from
the tool kit, see p. 50 (GLOVE/TOOL KIT
COMPARTMENT).
