Intellex® Policy Manager
Moving an Intellex Unit to a Security Zone
The Assign Instrument dialog allows you to assign an instrument to a zone.
A selection list contains the zones where you can move the instrument. The list does not show the
zone to which the instrument is currently assigned.
You can also drag and drop to move an instrument from one zone to another. If you choose this method, a
dialog appears, asking if you want to apply the default settings for the zone to the new instrument:
Replacing an Intellex
A variety of scenarios may lead to your replacing an instrument that is already registered with your
site. For example:
• You moved the instrument to another location and purchased a newer replacement for the
original location.
• You replaced the instrument because of a hardware failure.
To install the new instrument, you must give it the identity of the instrument that you are replacing.
Assume that you added the new instrument to the domain using the old instrument’s name.
1
Install the Policy Manager drivers onto the new instrument according to the standard
procedure.
2
Start the instrument and let it register itself with Policy Manager.
3
The instrument name are the same, but the primary and secondary identity keys (the MAC
address and unique ID generated by the instrument) are different. Policy Manager sees it as a
new instrument, records its information, and notifies all currently active administration clients
that a new instrument has just been registered.
4
Open the administration client and navigate to the All Secured Instruments collection.
5
Two entries with the same name appear. One is active (the new instrument you just installed)
and one is inactive (the replaced instrument).
6
Propagate the security settings from the old (inactive) instrument to the new one.
