GENERAL TIPS FOR CARRYING YOUR
BABY CORRECTLY
•
Always ensure that your baby sits in
the CARRY STAR with his knees up,
bottom down and legs apart. This
is important for your baby’s
comfort and for healthy hip
development. You can facilitate
this even more by pulling out any
spare material from the “Grow &
Go” system as far as the hollows of
your baby’s knees. Your baby’s bent knees
should be roughly at the same level as his belly
button. The “seat” should always go from the hollow
of one knee to the hollow of the other knee.
Change the settings if you can place your finger
between the hollow of your baby’s knee and the
edge of the “seat” on both sides.
•
If your baby is very small, it is important
that he sits with a rounded back in
the CARRY STAR. This enables
him to rest in a natural position
and supports the development of
his spine, because babies are born
with C-shaped spines that mainly
comprise rubbery cartilage rather
than “proper” bone. The intervertebral
discs are in place but not yet sufficiently
developed to work as shock absorbers. Over a
period of about a year, the C-shape gradually
evolves into an S-shape and the cartilage turns to
bone, until your baby can stand up on his own and
start to walk.
•
Your baby’s head must be at the
same level as the head and neck
support, so that it can be
encompassed and supported
properly. This is especially
important if your baby cannot yet
hold up his head by himself.
Your baby should be sitting high
enough for you to be able to kiss the
top of his head easily.
THIS IS HOW YOU ADJUST YOUR CARRY
STAR TO FIT YOU AND YOUR BABY
PERFECTLY
•
Before you use your CARRY STAR
for the first time, adjust it to
fit you. To do this, it is best to
use a mirror.
First, fasten the hip belt around
your hips and adjust it to fit
comfortably. The belt should
be neither too loose nor too tight.
If you carry your baby on your back,
the hip belt must be a little higher than for
the tummy-to-tummy position.
•
Now release the strap on the tummy
section of the CARRY STAR and
roll out the carrier. Put the two
shoulder straps over your
shoulders like a rucksack. Also
adjust these to a length that fits
you best. The shoulder straps
must not be loose and should fit
firmly so that the weight of your baby
is evenly distributed across both straps.
Depending on which carrying method you wish to
use, the tummy section must be on your tummy
(for the tummy-to-tummy method) or your back
(for the back method).
•
Finally, the connector between the
two shoulder straps must be
adjusted and fastened across your
back (for the tummy-to-tummy
method) or across your chest
(for the back method). This
connector can be adjusted
vertically and horizontally to fit
you. Once correctly adjusted, it can
remain fastened when you put your
CARRY STAR on or take it off. For optimal
comfort with the tummy-to-tummy method, the
connector should be approximately in the middle
of your shoulder blades. We recommend that you
ask someone to help you here, if necessary.
