dump of either the OS Firmware or Boot Firmware. WARNING!: the Boot
Firmware should only be updated if absolutely necessary and great care
should be taken. If the Boot Firmware update is interrupted or fails and
power is lost, the unit may be unbootable and the Boot ROM IC will need to
be replaced with a pre-programmed IC. If the Boot Firmware update fails,
but power is not lost, it can be retried until it succeeds. As of this revision of
the Service Manual, there is no need to update OS Firmware this way. For
details on updating the Boot Firmware, and for the sysex dump file, contact
Alesis.
1.4. “1” + “8” : Diagnostic Mode.
See section 10 for details on required equipment and procedures. This
mode can be used to troubleshoot faulty hardware. See section 11 for some
tips on solving common hardware problems. WARNING!: Some portions of
Diagnostic Mode can be destructive to user data, so be sure to use those
tests only when absolutely necessary and with the user’s consent.
1.5. “PLAY” + “REC” : Restore Defaults.
This key combination causes the Fusion OS Firmware to re-initialize all
Global user options and settings to their Factory Default settings. No user
data will be lost, but the Fusion may behave differently than the user expects
until they restore their desired settings. It is recommended to do this for
every unit received for service (and actually happens automatically after a
ROM Image update) as a first step in any troubleshooting process.
