IMPORTANT: Prior to performing any
maintenance procedure, the following safety
precautions must be observed. Personal
injury may occur.

WARNING

Release all pressure within the system

prior to performing any overhaul procedure.

• Disconnect the air supply line to the pump’s

motor.

• Into an appropriate container, operate the

control valve to discharge remaining pressure
within the system.

• Disconnect the material connecting hose.

Never point a control valve at any portion of your
body or another person. Accidental discharge of
pressure and/or material can result in injury.

Read each step of the instructions carefully. Make
sure a proper understanding is achieved before

proceeding.

Remove and Replace

NOTE

: These procedures address the most

common repair made to the reel. Refer to

Figure 2

for component identification on the

following procedures.

For Overhaul procedures, refer to the section entitled

Overhaul

.

Spring Arbor and Power Spring

Should the reel fail to retract, either the Power Spring

and/or Arbor are broken or have been installed incorrectly.

  1. Close the shut-off valve to stop the supply of oil to the

reel, if applicable.

  2. Operate the control valve into a collection container to

release any pressure within the system.

  3. Disconnect the material hose from the reel.

• Cap each connection to prevent spillage of oil.

  4. Remove the hardware that secures then reel to its

mount.

  5. Position the assembly on its reel (base assembly

upward) on a suitable work surface.

IMPORTANT: Make sure there is no tension
on Power Spring (

41

).

  6. Rotate the Base, Guide and Roller assembly in both

directions to ensure the reel assembly is not operating
properly.

  7. Remove Union Adapter (

A

) from Main Shaft (

24

) if

used.
• Cap the Main Shaft as required.

  8. Loosen Setscrew (

31

) that secures the Main Shaft to

Base Assembly (

26

).

• Mark the Main Shaft to indicate the flat to ensure the

Setscrew seats properly upon reassembly.
See

Figure 2

.

  9. Remove the Base Assembly [with Guide and Roller

Assembly (

29

)] from Spring Case and Ratchet

Assembly (

39

).

10. Remove Snap Ring (

25

) that secures Main Shaft (

24

to the Spring Case and Ratchet Assembly.
• Use care not to mar the surface of the Main Shaft.

11. Remove Jam Nut (

38

) that secures Stud (

Should the Power Spring require disposal, secure

with two (2) steel hose clamps.

IMPORTANT: Separate the Spring Case and
Ratchet Assembly from Sheave Assembly
(

19

) with care. Check to ensure the Power

Spring remains coiled during this process

12. Remove Locknuts (

33

) that secure the Spring Case and

Ratchet Assembly to the Sheave Assembly.

13. Separate the Spring Case and Ratchet Assembly from

the Power Spring and Sheave Assembly.
• Use a wide blade or other suitable tool.
