IEC Pass/Fail Analysis

IEC 61300-3-35 defines connector inspection pass/fail criteria .
Pass/Fail criteria depends on:

Fiber type (SMF or MMF)
•
Connector end face regions
– A region: Core
– B region: Cladding
– C region: Adhesive (between cladding
and ferrule)
– D region: Physical contact area

Defects (contamination, particles, chips)

Shown below is the display when the IEC rule for single-mode PC connector with return loss ≥ 45 dB is
selected . The table identifies the number of scratches or defects of a certain size, which may be allowed
in each of the core, cladding, and contact regions .
