Functional Description
The following sections describe the cPCI-6910 features and func-
tions.
3.1
Processor
The cPCI-6910 supports a Dual-Core Intel
®
Xeon
®
processor LV/
ULV (2.0 GHz/1.66 GHz) with 2 MB L2 cache in a micro-FCPGA
package. The Dual-Core Intel
®
Xeon
®
processor LV/ULV is a
high-performance, low-power consuming processor with several
micro-architectural enhancements over existing Intel processors,
including:

Chip Multi-Processing (CMP)-based architecture (dual-
cores on chip)
X
Optimized for best MPS/Watt with CMP-enabled software
X
Advanced pre-fetching mechanisms
X
Advanced power management and throttling mechanisms
3.2
Chipset
The cPCI-6910 incorporates the Intel
®
E7520 chipset consisting of
three PCI Express
®
x8 channels, Memory Controller Hub, and I/O
Controller Hub (Intel
®
6300ESB).
The Intel
®
E7520 comes with a memory controller hub component
for embedded platforms. It also provides the processor, DDR2
system memory, hub, and PCI Express
®
interfaces.
3.3
Memory
The cPCI-6910 comes with a dual-channel DDR2 system memory
architecture that supports x72, buffered, registered DDR2 400
MHz SDRAM with ECC. The Intel
®
E7520 supports 1 GB/512 MB
memory with error checking and correcting (ECC) mechanism pro-
vided by Chipkill technology on x8 DIMMS to ensure data and
memory integrity. The Intel
