3.2 Unpacking
The equipment is shipped ready for installation. Handle equipment very carefully to prevent component damage. Unpack the
carton upon receipt and check the contents and their condition. Note any exterior damage to the carton that might lead to
detection of equipment damage.
If you note any damage to any equipment, file a claim with the carrier immediately.
The carrier may need to inspect the equipment.
3.3 Specific Site Information
Site information is provided in the airport project plans and specifications. The installation must conform to the applicable
sections of the National Electric Code and local codes.
Refer to the guidelines below when preparing the site.

See Figure 2 . Each L-849 REIL light unit should be placed in a line with the runway threshold at 40 feet (12.2 m) from the
runway edge. A tolerance of 90 feet (27.4 m) upwind and 40 Feet (12.2 m) downwind with respect to being in line with the
threshold is permitted.

The light units shall be equally spaced with respect to each other from the runway threshold. See FAA Advisory Circular AC
150/5340-30 for additional installation requirements.
