11.2 Cleaning the lancing device
To ensure proper functioning of your lancing device
and the used cap, you should clean them regularly and
if there is any blood on them. If you want to clean the
lancing device, first detach it from the meter (see
Chapter “undocking and docking the lancing device”).
Clean the outside of the lancing device only. Wipe it
once a week with a cloth moistened with 70 % ethanol
or 70 % isopropanol (available from your pharmacy).
Also clean the inside of the cap with a cotton swab
moistened with one of the two cleaning fluids.
Allow the lancing device and cap time to dry thorough-
ly.
Never dip the lancing device in the cleaning
fluid. Doing so may damage its internal com
-
ponents and stop it from working properly.
Never dip the AST cap in the cleaning fluid.
Cleaning fluid left in contact with the AST cap
for too long can attack the material from which
it is made, stopping it from functioning properly.
use only 70 % ethanol or 70 % isopropanol to
clean the lancing device or the AST cap. other
cleaning agents may attack the plastic and stop
them from operating properly.
