Plastic objects, such as specula and goggles, might melt under the influence of the
laser beam, which could lead to fire-causing chemical reactions.

When the laser is used in laryngologic indications, please take care that materials
used in the operation, e.g. laser tubes, endotracheal tubes, adhesive tapes,
ointments and medical solutions are protected from catching fire. This can be
achieved by the use of fire-resistant instruments, venturi ventilation, humidification
and non-burning gas mixtures. The anesthesia staff should use fire-resistant, laser-
resistant tubing. In addition, the oxygen concentration must be reduced.
9.
The smoke produced during the treatment may affect the physician's field of vision,
be toxic, and contain tissue particles. In order not to endanger the health of the
persons in the room, the smoke must be dissipated through a smoke extractor
designed for use with medical lasers.
